Tips for Minimizing Complications from Damaged Braces

August 25, 2016

Your Safari Dental orthodontist installed your braces in an effort to realign your teeth for a healthier mouth and a better smile. While your braces are intended to be durable, they will also need to be maintained. There are still certain activities, foods, and bad habits, which could potentially bend, break, or loosen a piece of hardware. If this happens, it will likely increase the amount of time you need to wear braces.

If some part of your braces be damaged, you should call Safari Dental’s Bryan, Tx clinic as soon as possible at (979) 985-3093 to have it repaired. If for some reason you can’t immediately contact us, there are a few things you can do to help manage problems caused by the damaged braces.

When your braces were installed, your orthodontist gave you a piece of special orthodontic wax. If a loose bracket, band or broken wire is poking into your cheek or gums, you should try to secure it inside the wax. If you don’t have the wax handy, you might be able to make do with a pencil eraser.

It’s also not unheard of for a spacer to come loose or fall out shortly before a scheduled adjustment session. If this happens, you should give us a call. We might simply recommend that you come in for an earlier adjustment and have the spacer replaced.

If any part of your braces is damaged, you should not delay in calling Safari Dental’s Bryan, Tx clinic at (979) 985-3093 to have it repaired as soon as possible.
