What You Need to Know About Guardian Insurance Coverage
Guardian, like most insurance providers, offers patients coverage for a percentage of their necessary dental care. In exchange, you and/or your employer will pay a monthly premium to Guardian. Guardian dental insurance plans are also limited by annual plan maximums. That means you’ll receive a percentage of the cost of your dental care as outlined by your unique insurance plan up to a predetermined maximum amount that is usually between $1000 and $2000 for individuals.
What Treatments Does Dental Insurance Cover?
Every benefit plan represents a contract between an individual, their employer, and their insurance provider, so we can’t tell you specific dental insurance coverage percentages without reviewing your individual plan, but most patients can expect to receive the following:
- 80 to 100% coverage for preventive dentistry services
- 50 to 80% coverage for restorative dentistry services
- 50 to 75% coverage for orthodontic treatments
- Other more advanced procedures and elective options are not usually covered
In-Network VS Out of Network Coverage
In-network dentists, like Safari Dental & Orthodontics, have standing agreements with benefit providers to charge fees at or below what Guardian perceives to be a fair and average price for treatment. You can choose a dentist that is outside of the plan’s network, but they may charge fees higher than those accepted by Guardian, so you will be responsible for any differences in the price of treatment as well as your percentage of the cost of care. In most cases, the difference in pricing is minimal, but visiting an in-network dentist ensures you never have to worry about additional costs.
Preventive Care to Maximize Insurance Coverage
At Safari Dental & Orthodontics, we encourage our patients to maintain the optimal level of oral health by visiting our Bryan dental office twice a year for checkups and professional teeth cleanings. These biannual appointments give us the opportunity to prevent the advance of minor oral health concerns into more serious dental issues. Left untreated, a small cavity can lead to the loss of large amounts of healthy tooth structure or tooth loss. Keeping up with these regular office visits is also the best way to maximize your Guardian insurance coverage. Most Guardian plans provide 100% coverage for the costs of these preventive appointments. By keeping up with your regular checkups, you receive maximum benefits and avoid advanced treatments that may not be covered by your plan. It’s a win win for your smile and your pocketbook.
