Understanding Your Delta Dental Policy

Every patient has a unique Delta Dental policy. Your benefit plan is a specific representation of an agreement between you, your employer, and the insurer. However, most plans share some basic details. Particularly, dental insurance providers offer patients coverage for a percentage of the cost of necessary dental care in return for the payment of a monthly premium. The percentage of treatment covered by your insurer is based on the fees for service they consider fair and average for specific services. The insurer provides the outlined percentage of their set treatment costs up to an annual maximum. Most Delta Dental plans have an annual maximum coverage between $1000 and $1500, and they cover the following percentages of treatment costs:

  • Prevention – 80 to 100% coverage
  • Restoration – 50 to 80% coverage
  • Orthodontics – 50 to 75% coverage when coverage is elected
  • Other cosmetic treatments and more advanced services are not typically covered

Benefits of Visiting an In-Network Dentist

Woman receiving dental examIn-network dentists have agreed to charge the fees for services deemed fair by your insurance provider. That means you will only need to pay the out of pocket costs for your treatment. Dental care from out of network providers may have higher fees for service, but you will need to pay the difference between the out of network treatment costs and those fees set by your insurer. In most cases, the difference in price is negligible, but by visiting an in-network provider, you avoid worrying about any additional costs.

Maximize Insurance Coverage with Six Month Checkups

Regular six month dental checkups in our office typically receive between 80% and 100% benefit coverage from Delta Dental, which means you will have very low out of pocket costs for these services. Additionally, these appointments are the best way to avoid the more severe oral health concerns that require advanced treatments and receive lower dental insurance coverage.
